During feeding time it usually is swimming around until I turn on the lights. Then it darts back to his hiding spot and stares at me. Usually if I wait a few minutes it will swim out for a few seconds until it sees me and then it will return to its spot. I think it legitimately doesn't like me...anyone else had this problem?

no they are just naturally shy, mine runs to his hiding spot any then when i stick my hand in the tank he wil slowly edge out of his cave, then swim over to my hand and grab some food, then swim around the tank for 5-15 seconds then go back to his cave. usually in the morning when i wake up he is swimming up and down the front glass :D

They are nocturnal and that's why it darts back into hiding when the lights come on, but it can be trained to eat when the lights are on. As for being shy...not all fish view it's owner as a source of food or friend, or anything that will not harm it. A lot of fish will see something big and moving and assume that it's a larger predator. That's another reason why fish hide from us.
