Can African Butterfly fish be aggressive?

I have a 3" in my 40 gallon breeder and I've been noticing small bite marks on some of my fish.

Mind you, I've been noticing them on fish like me 5" Hoplo Catfish and my 3.5" N American Killie as well as a few others. The African Butterfly is among the smallest fish in the tank and ALWAYS loafs around at the top, (As they normally do), but the only mouth that fits the bites are from the Butterfly.

So, would it be possible that my African Butterfly could be attacking my other fish. I've never seen it act that way but I don't know who else it could be.

unlikely, they r very peaceful, but then again there r always exceptions, if the african is the newest fish n thats when all the bite marks started appearing, then its the african, try 2 put the african in a betta holder in the tank, put it in there 4 a week, then let it out, maybe its temperament will be lower

I really don't remember seeing them before introducing the Butterfly, I might try that.

It's odd though, I have a lot of fake plants at the surface. It has a TON of cover, so I don't see why it would be that way.

cause they are distantly related to aros.

True, this fish is as closely related to arowanas as arapaima gigas and african aros.

Whoaaa this is new. Never seen one of these before. As the saying goes, live and learn. Cool fish rba

Yeah they loaf around a lot.

Oh and yeah, I wasn't sure where to put the thread and I knew that they were related to Aros so I just put it here. Sorry mods if there's a more appropriate place for this.

I got rid of some of the other fish and the culprit ended up being a Severum that I had. I had never seen it act aggressive EVER, but I guess I forgot that it was a Cichlid lol.

And yeah, Butterfly's are really cool, they do look a lot like Aros only they grow to 4-5" at most.
