African butterfly fish and yellow labs

Has anyone had any luck mixing a African butterfly fish and electric yellow chichlid in the same tank. The guy at my local fish store said it's a tricky one and is down to a personality factor. What are your thoughts?

It's a 300L tank btw

I'm not familiar with the yellow labs. Do they go to surface to eat?

Yes they feed at all levels. But I think they will be okay with each other as long as the yellow labs are big enough not to be eaten. They occupy different areas of the tank while not feeding.

Make sure you have floating vegetation for the ABF's , also keep your eye on the yellow labs for aggression towards the ABF's. Make sure the ABF's get proper foods
