So I got 3 African butterflies to test out water quality in my swamp setup (yes, I know they're expensive test fish but I wanted something visible and cool-looking) and during acclimation, one of them got out of the bucket and was on the floor, possibly for a few minutes.
When I put it back in the water it seemed fine, and this was like a week ago. This morning I saw one of the butterflies sitting on a plant on the bottom, totally motionless, so I assumed it had died. When I went to grab it out of the tank, however, it darted away.
I've noticed it hanging out on the bottom a bit, although there's no way for me to tell if it's even the same butterfly that was beached.
Is this OK behavior for an african butterlfy? Could it possibly be a swim bladder issue? Seems like the other ones exclusively stay at the top (unless something frightens them away from it, and then they only retreat briefly).
Thanks!
