hey guys,im seting up a new tank for some africans,i heard they are pretty hardy and i was wondering the the tank needs to be fully cycled before i can put these cichlids in.any advice?thanx

yes 100% it does need to be cycled if you are a responsible fish keeper.

you can cycle using ammonia and can speed it up using mature media from an established tank.

Dont torture fish because your impatient and you will be one step ahead of the rest of the newbies

Totally agree.

I've used spirogyra in the past. you just put it in the tank just before you add the fish. Just make sure that the spyrogyra is fresh. Worked great! no problems and no spikes!!

How established is your tank????? how long has it been running? Anything in it before?

tanks beeen up lil over a week.has a 9 inch pleco in there and also have been adding cycle chems.thanx for looking guys

I'd wait another week or so before you put any more fish in it. Then you should be ok.
