I have a 55gal that I was thinking of making an African cichlid tank. Can I put a barracuda in too. If so, what cichlids should I get? I am new to this so any suggestions?

Dont know much about africans but for SA's.
rams
acara's
discus
angels
All work most of the time.

A cuda tank is best set up with the cuda's being the main fish and all others are to support its eco system.

Like a few nice cuda, then some large tetra's in a school for dithers and then a small school of cory cats for the clean up crew. Thats a proven set up to keep cuda less streesed and flighty. And in turn raise there over all health a bit.

IMO - not a great idea. African Cichlids can be nasty lil' buggers with tons of lil' teeth and an attitude that is truely relentless - too much stress for a Cuda to with stand.
Also they have 2 completely different dietery requirements. S/A - C/A cichlids would be the way to go - Long tank 5'-8', overfiltration, current, and aquire all fish as juvies with the cudas being twice as long as the cich's. Thats I'm doing it.

maybe some kelberi peacock bass or some earth eaters payaras, silverdollars, catfishes are also good cuda tankmates i have a setup with all but the payaras and pbass but ill be getting some tats soon
