I have a brownish african that is holding. I have no idea how long since today is the first day I saw her. I have moved her to my fry tank and she seems fine. I guess it would help to know who long to expect her to hold and what to do with her. I will try to get a pic of her as soon as she calms down. I really suck at names of fish, lol.

Thanks
Jason

Never really kept count but on average one of my females lets her fry out at about 30 days or so.

I guess I moved her just on time! She spit out 9 fry last night and they are about 1/4". I so excited, these are my first african babies.

Thanks for the input
Jason

When should I take the mom out of the fry tank and put her back in the big tank??

Hi Jason, As already stated it takes between 3-4 weeks for the mother to spit out the fry. What I do is I keep mine in a breeding net and at around 24-25 days I start to put small amounts of food into the net for her. This to try and lure her into spitting out. I then keep her in there for 3-4 days and I feed her a little extra so she can be in good condition when released back into the main tank. Remember she hasn't eaten whilst she has been holding the eggs and fry. Well done! :naughty: :woot: :clap :clap :headbang2
