All hybrid cichlids i see are CA or SA, and all hybrid africans on this site appear to be undesirable and/or unnattractive. so i took it upon myself to start a thread of AFRICAN HYBRID CICHLIDS.

RULES:

~ the fish dont have to be in your possesion, but the parentage must be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN. no "mystery hybrids." I is ok to have a hybrid that only has one parent known, as long as it is stated.

~ the fish must be stated as an F1 hybrid or otherwise noted of the species in the fish's blood (F1 hybrid of a kennyi x red zebra, or F1 Labidochromis x "kennyi x Red zebra" the quotes id this as one fish, a hybrid bred to a labidochromis) as long as it's easily understood the parentage, any format is fine

~ The father is stated before the Mother (just to reduce questions like "which was the dad?")

~ Progression pictures and parents pictures are also highly encouraged!

~ One Hybrid per post. more than one picture of an individual, or siblings within a spawn is ok, but different species crosses should be on a seperate post.

~ rules may be edited when needed

First up:

N. Venustus X O.B. Peacock

Updated pics in the next few days

cool fish! my (former) teacher has a hybrid between a yellow lab and a demasoni... hopefully will have those pics soon...

good luck with this.... i wish i liked african hybrids, i'm not opposed to hybrids, i personally love em, i just haven't seen an african hybrid that i have ever liked. they all (so far) looked like poor, unspectacular variants of their parents. educate me guys!

The primary reason for that is because very few people have taken the time or effort to selectively breed for certain traits.... most african hybrids are accidents. i believe that with a little careful breeding (and making sure whoever buys them knows its a hybrid) that selectively bred hybrids could possibly be the equivalent of an "african flowerhorn." this would take lots of breeding though, and it wouldnt look anything like the new world flowerhorn, but the same concept of selective hybridizing would apply... hey, its worth a shot! more pics to come

the 1st 2 are the hybrids. the was 7 all a pale orangey colour apart from 1 which had black patches/stripes.

the last 2 pics are the parents. red zebra is the mom and the other 1 is the dad but i never knew what sp..

These were taken today, 11/3/2011, using the 5 megapixel camera on my phone (evo 3D)

More new pics...

Kennyi x Red Zebra

These were also taken with the same camera as above post. Next pics will be of this male's siblings...

he fades between blue (with black bars) and slightly more yellow/yellow-green. he's not the dominant, or in my possession... i plan to get him from my (former) teacher soon and put him with his siblings in their own tank!

video, since the fish were all moving too much...

Kennyi x Red Zebra Male... if i would give it a name, i would call it an "icefin Zebra" (so that's what i'll call it just to differentiate it from the blue siblings)

the lighting is terrible... the fins in sunlight or good lighting are solid metallic ice-blue colored and the body is orangey-yellow. still subadults though! need some age and maturity to get the full colors to show:
