Hey folks!

I have a 5cm baby lungfish from an extremely remote location in eastern Africa. He was collected two months ago by my boss, and after treatment for a nasty bacterial infection upon arrival, the little lungie is doing spectacularly well.

We're not sure what species he is yet; at such a tiny size, I just don't think we'll be able to tell for a while. Boss brought me three to choose from; two were larger (closer to 10cm or so), and are likely P. annectens; one of those he kept and the other is now the lab pet. Mine is the only one of the three that I think is possibly P. amphibius. I'm not holding my breath though; he's just so small I really don't think it'll be possible to know for a while.

My question is, what kinds of substrate can I keep him on? He's currently in a 5g bare bottomed tank with some java fern, and is destined for a 100g tank with a footprint of 48"x24". I don't think I'll move him for a while, though. I'll keep him in a 30g tank until he's grown up a bit.

I want to use a plant substrate and plant the 100g tank while he's still too small to tear the place up. Is Eco-Complete a safe option? Any other plant substrates? Worst case scenario, I'll stick with epoxy coated gravel and just anchor various plants to wood.

"Lungry The Hungry Lungfish" and I thank you for any assistance :)
