Ok, today at the pet store I purchased a Red Top and a Fire Mouth that had grown up together in the same tank there whold lives and have never fought. There both darn near full grown. Whats everyones opinion on this? Is it 'ok' for this mix? I dont have pics of them. There in a bow front tank so its really really hard to get a picture.

I wouldn't mix South American with Africans because South Americans need soft water. But Firemouths are Central American, and Central American cichlids require water that is harder (and is more like the water Africans cichlids need). I wouldn't do it myself, but still if it works, I think it's fine.

Well they were together for an hour and the african was picking at the fire mouth so I brought the african back and decided to stick strictly to central and south american cichlids so i brought home a black convict. Theyr doing great so far... lol

There are a lot of people that mix Africans and SA/CA cichlids together. I for one are one of them. I see no problem with it as long as they are not wild caught.
Nice bow front by the way.

kribs go well with firemouths, about the same aggression level from a pair of kribs.

what im finding now is that the fire mouth keeps the black convict hiding alot. There are no split fins or any scales missing on him though so hes not being picked at or anything, just scared away and chased. Will this stop after awhile? I tried to kinda split the tank in half with plants and rocks to kinda make territories but that really didnt make any difference. theres more then enough holes in the rocks for both fish to have there own spots but the fire mouth feels the need to take over the whole tank.
