I have a 72"x24"x30" tank currently being built. Due to my main tank bursting the current stock is a ornate bichir, an african bush fish and a feather fin syno.

Id like to keep an african theme to the tank and was wondering if any one could suggest some unusual african fish that wont kill my current refugees.

Im having real trouble finding anything on african fish it would seem.

Thanks for any suggestions.

more bichirs. m\maybe sexfaciatus or odoe but most probably won't work with that bush fish

You have to admit, it's a bit of an odd bunch.
Not really, what's the bush fish a ctenopoma? They don't usually bother anything else and along with the ornate and the syno theyr'e Africans although probably from different locations, not sure which syno he has......I like the sexfaciatus idea but they can get pretty big.I'd look for an Afrowana, butterfly fish and some congo tetra.

Distichodus species, African arowana, Odoe pike, large mormyrids, giraffe catfish.

I was going to mention the giraffe cat but it grows bigger than everything else mentioned.

the bush fish is an adult Ctenopoma acutirostre and the syno is a 17 year old synodontis eupterus.

I like the arowana idea but my tank is way too small to house an adult and this is as big as i can get.

I've not had much luck with mormyrids but i was thinking of a large shoal as the main feature. African knife fish would be nice to have again.

Id like a large catfish but a giraffe (which i would love) would be cramped in there.

The reason I didn't suggest anything smaller is the Ornate is likely to eat it. You might want to consider swapping for a Delhezi or Senegal if you want smaller fish. The African Mudfish Phractolaemus ansorgi is a neat mid-size one.
