african or american cichlids

please give me your opinion which do you prefer of the two? i am trying to stock my 75gallon and i cant decide which i prefer

I like tanganyikans, there are some nice cyprichromis or brichardi out there that would look nice in a 75 gallon.

With a 75 gallon I'd go africans. As far as africans go I've always been rather partical to Vics myself.

I'm a big fan of new world cichlids. Africans just don't seem anywhere near as interesting to me.

I've kept both and still house New World. You can fit more Africans in a 75 than you can CA/SA's. What are you looking for? Head banger psycho fish or or numerous psycho fish, or wet pet?

I personally like American, but if you want a larger stocking volume, Africans will be the choice. Depending on species you could probably due 10-15 Africans in a 75, but would really be pushing more the 3 or 4 Americans, and even that is only if you go with some smaller species like Firemouths or Rainbows. If you want something bigger like an Oscar or Jack, you would probably be limited to the 1 fish, and maybe a second, but unlikely.
