I cant find a heck of a lot on the net about these guys:(

But one of my LFS has one so my friend wants it!

So im going to do a lil research for him....

My questions:

Tank size?
Shelter In Tank?
food/diet?
Temp?
and anything else i forgot?

It's a kind of Bichir. There is a lot of info on them in the Polypterus section.

Go there and do a search for Rope and you'll get tons of stuff. It's also called a Reed Fish

THey get LONG. Up to 24".
But they grow very very very slow..
Should have about 55 gallons.
Need lots of hiding places. PVC, logs, driftwood.
Peaceful, but will attack and eat small fish that it can fit in its mouth.
Should not be kept with large aggressive cichlids or any fish that would conisder it a worm and eat it.
Temp should be normal tropical temp .. around 80

Is a predator, needs meaty foods. Worms, fish.. anything meaty.

pretty cool fish but is slow and cant find food very well they seem to like caves so have a few hiding spots and they can get 36'' so i'd say a 30 long might be the minimum tank size it just needs to be able to stretch out fully thay can be picky eater but meaty foods like beef heart and choped fish thay also like blood worms and brine shrimp

Yeah, I've had mine for about 2 years and about 24" but i rarelly see it. It hides alot and only comes out early in the morning or right after i turn off the lights. It loves to eat nightclawers, red worms, mealworms, and bits of krill. He swims up to the surface, takes a gulp of air and slows floats/swims down around the tank. The tank is an 80gal.

mine pretty much lives in a stump, but he comes out when I him feed bloodworms right out of my hand, he learned that from watching the tiretrack and fire eels

:iagree: with pretty much everything said here already.
