I have a 55 gallon with a African Black Knife and alot of Mopani Drift wood.

It's an okay set up and I enjoy. At first i put goraumi's but the blue one became to aggressive, not towards the Knife, but the other two gorami's....he stressed them to death. Made them stay to one side on the tank...they got skinny...stop eating. I have no idea what my blue gorami did to the kinfe once the lights went off.

So i got rid of the goruamis. I want to go all african.

Here is what i am thinking of...just some ideas...not sure which ones would work

Viper Shrimp
Polypterus delhezi
Baby Whale
Elephant Nose
Butterfly Fish
Featherfin african catfish
Rope Fish
Congo Leaf Fish
Kribs

And suggestions...which would work out together...in a 55 gallon. Any other west african cichlids or fish period?

This is would be my stock list in your situation:

1 polyterus delhezi (maybe 2) 12" each
2 african black knife (add another, they like their brethren) 6" each
1 elephant nose 6" each
2 butterfly fish 4" each
1 featherfin catfish 8" each
4 congo tetras 4" each

Scary Cakes???? An African Arowana ? ...We are takling a 55 gallon here...could that work...wouldn't the AA harrass my Knife!...

Mei i really love your idea...2 knifes..i never thought of that even though i do see them in tanks together ..sometimes more than 2. Mei would all of that fit in a 55 though?

Also..i am thinking about Mottled eels or some other type of african spiny eels...anybody have a good one that would go with some of those things already mention into a 55 gallon.

African Arowana

:WHOA: Arowana, in a 55g?

Not for long:(

I keep my 2 African brown knifes with a fire eel. They are quite tranquil together and never bother each other.
had a leporinus fasciatus in there as well but he's no longer with us... I do not reccomend this guy with knifes though.
so now that he's gone my tank feels quite bare. I'm gonna add in some livebearers, i think if they have babies my other fish could eat them. possibility?
