Hey guys CaptainS here i just got back from and aquarium store i talked to the owner about my mix and we brought up the african tiger fish vittatus and he said they are to skittish and easily frightend so he reccomended as a replacement a hydrocynus tanzaniae or hydrocynus brevis would one of those 2 be a good replacement which one would you guys recommend?

I think it's a bad idea to be spending this much time and effort trying to solidify a stock list for a tank that you don't even know you're going to have. Like others said in the other thread of yours, research this stuff on your own first. You look up the fish, you look up the compatibility, and then really start to settle in on your list once you actually have the aquarium. Or at least once you finish doing whatever you need to do to your garage.

Focus on the essentials like how you're going to get the tank, what kind of filtration or drip system you'll be doing, how you're going to keep it without a stand in an area that frequents minor earthquakes and once you are closer to your goal and ready to buy the tank, then focus on stocking. Right now it sounds like a project that's going to be years down the road if it even happens and who knows what fish will or will not be available to legally keep in an aquarium by then.

Dude I just got back from the aquarium store you sounded like my grandma she said the same thing but back to topic I am going to prepare the aquarium store owner offered to help me prepare and teach me more but I came here for some answers up above which african tiger fish should I get the tanzaniae or the brevis.

All tigerfish are skittish.

Goliaths are worse than the other four species.

Brevis is probably the best, but there's been so few in the hobby that we can't be sure.

Any way you decide to go, good luck getting what it is that you think you're getting. With the wsy you seem to be thinking, odds are good that you will pass on the VATF that was actually a BATF to get the TATF thats actually a FATF.

I'm really starting to think CaptainS is a troll or a little kid.

Have you ever kept fish before? I suggest you start of with something smaller so you can learn and to make sure you actually enjoy the hobby which also includes maintaining your tank. A lot of these fish you want I wouldn't classify as beginner species.

With two thousand gallons of water you shouldn't have to worry about a little skittishness of the fish. They will clearly have plenty of room to stretch their fins.
With dimensions of 18'x5'x3' I don't see an issue.
You are still going with the two thousand?

Yes Kamawamkie I am. Etan im not going to get all of the fish at once my uncle has a 635 gallon tank at his house hes trying to sell and I will use that to start the african tigerfish in than move it to the bigger tank once its old enough and do the same thing with the other fish.

Thanks to all of you on the forums who went out of there way to help me with my list I believe The list is finally complete now I can do what all of you have been telling me to do and start planning out everything.
