Do they all school nicely or do certain species have tighter schools? I've seen a group of vittatus and one goliath school nicely and I've seen a group of goliaths and one vittatus school but not as tightly.
IME Vittatus school more readily since they do that in the wild. GATF are more solitary so they will get more annoyed with each other as they get bigger.
Since getting my goliath I like how it and the vittatus swim together. Been waiting on another goliath but thinking about getting a vittatus instead since they school nicely.
They don't always school nicely. Might be different subspecies temperaments, might be the individual fish, but my Vs hated each other, and really hated the Goliath. Goliath was constantly getting punked and after several attacks had to be moved.
IME, it's largely luck of the draw based on the temperaments of the individual fish involved. All it takes is one a-hole fish to mess up the entire group dynamic, and it can often be nearly impossible to figure out which one that is.
im guessing that your fish that school are pretty young. As they get older and mature they won't tolerate each other as much. By the time mine were around 8" torn fins and gashes were regular events.
Isn't that group too small to be to the point where they become less tolerant of each other though? While mine aren't Vs they didn't seem to mind each other when small, but as they got bigger they seemed to get less tolerant of each other.
I bet if I tried Gar with mine they'd be de-finned in 48 hours..... lol
