Hi all

My local fish shop currently has a African tiger fish, it is 3" and has been offered to me for £30 an offer i think i would be stupid to turn due to how hard these fish are to get hold off. I wanted to know if anyone on this forum has kept these fish and wot experiences they had, things like feeding habits, character, how they compared to other predatory fish/aggresive fish. I have read about the fish but i would like to hear and learn from first hand experiences

All feedback will be much appreciated.

Hi,

I owned one. They are an amazing fish. I bought it at around 3-4 inches and raised it to 10 inches in a 120 gallon and let me tell you ......you need a much much bigger tank if you want to keep one. No joke these fish are increadibly strong and fast. They are amazing jumpers with alot of power behind their jump. I'm sure a 10 - 12 incher can easily smash through a sliding glass cover no problem. My guy literally took the sliding glass cover off it's track and I was really lucky that the glass didn't shatter. They are really amazing to watch hunt when they're hungry. They use their teeth like a saw when they come in a high-speed attack literally cutting the food in half...at least that's what mine did. All I sugest is that you have a big aquarium if you want to keep one. I am picking up a new 230 gal in 2 weeks and I still find this too small. But it would be hard to resist getting one if I saw some at my lfs. Keep us posted and good luck either way.

Mine grew quite quick and a 35 gallon will only last a couple of months. I find my 120 was just right but would have been very soon outgrown. Just remember to have a very solid cover on the tank and enjoy. Good luck. Please post pics of it.
