Africans and live plants

So I've decided to move from ca/sa cichlids to doing an African setup, I'd like to add live plants and have never owned Africans before. Are they ok with plants? Or is it a waste of money?

I have found that cichlids are a hardy species. South American cichlids might root your plants up and African species prefer hard water but I say try it.

I tried it but mine continuously nipped at the edges of anubias and java fern, eventually killing the plants. After that I went back to silk plants.

keep all mine with loads of live plants and its fine.

I've got hard water I'm gonna try with some plants and if it doesn't work out then silk it is. Since other treads people said they had no problems then its worth a shot.

I have java fern and Anubias all over my african tanks, no problems

i feed my africans so much plants i wouldnt even bother trying.
