I'm looking into setting a tank up for someone and maintaining it. I think he's gonna want to fill it up with africans. Most likely a community of them. I'm only gonna be there at his place twice a week so take that into consideration. This tank will have two sponge filters and a hang-on filter system.

So,

Which species?

How many?

How does the tank need to be setup (Hiding places, amount of plant live or fake, etc.)

P.s if you think Africans are a bad idea then feel free to mention another option.

Well, with 55 Gallons. mbuna afticans will probably be best bet.

As for the filtration, all comes down to the stock level in the tank.

Lastly, What are his water parms at their location? Mbuna require higher ph ~8.0 and hardish water. (dont know the exact kh / gh)

If his Ph out of tap is 7.0-7.5 id say just do a nicely stocked tropical community tank. Otherwise you would want to buffer the water a little bit.

Our PH is terribly high. I regularly have problems keeping some fish cause of it.

Okay thanks.
