this is another one of the what would you do with the 72 threads........ my buddys boss is tired of striking out when it comes to fish, currently he has 2 red devils in the tank not a good combo both stay hidden all the time which is horrible for the front room of a business supposed to be pretty and active tank, not to mention the fact that 1 full grown would be pushing it and eventually it would only be 1 since the larger is almost aggro enough to kill the smaller one already. in my opinion what would best suite him is a rift lake community tank, he wants to keep stock light enough to do only once weekly or possibly biweekly (depending on workload) w/c's. im not very knowledgable on africans as a whole so if you could put together suitable stock lists that he could pick from it would be much appreciated.

I would go with cichlids from lake tanganyika. They stay small mostly 3-6 inches. Pretty peaceful and very active in my opinion. You could also do peacocks. I would stay away from mbunas because they are aggressive and you need to have more fish to decrease aggression and you will have to clean the tank and do more water changes. Tangs would be the path i would go down

i was thinking about peacocks i have 1 african tank in my house, i am growing my fronts, i believe 1 male and 2 females, i also have with them 3 ob peacocks, 1 bright orange and 1 bright pink peacocks, and a yellow lab. didnt know squat about them besides they are africans not always the best way to purchase things i know, my girlfriend picked them out as the tank is for her, i just told her what she couldnt have and aimed her in the area to pick from. so far has worked out pretty well. any specific tangs that stick out that he could get 2-3 of each kind? as in which look good together as a group, i have seen some african communities that look like crap together and others that are absolutely stunning combos.

Well im new to tangs too and i love them. I dont have any pairs i have 5 tangs all different and doing very well. They stay small and if you have hiding spots then u could get pairs. I'll look some stuff up and get back to ya

i would personally go with mbuna for a 72 bowfront, provides lots of color and always active.

you think they wouldnt be too aggro keeping the stock lighter to keep from having to do as many wc's

tangs have plenty of color and less aggression. Its all about what you want in a tank. Go to a lfs and look at the mbunas and the tangs that will help u decide

its not for me to decide i am just trying to get a couple sets that would look good together so i can give options to choose from that would look good and work good together. personally i would make it marine but he doesnt want to foot the bill for that.

nothing set in stone, but with choosing compatible species and if you can get good m/f ratios, the aggression will not be bad. But like others have mentioned a tang community could also look great.

All male peacocks would provide lots of color and activity with less aggression than mbuna.
