I have a 200G multilevel plastic tub pond that I would like to keep some africans in while the weather allows, then they go inside. I'm thinking malawi just looking for some species ideas, more specifically something I could sell or trade the fry of. So no red zebra, yellow labs, kenyi, you know the stuff every shop has. Oh and something with color so I can actually see them would be nice. I want to keep only one species and just let them grow up and breed in there. thanks guys

I would go with peacocks or one of the rarer mbuna.

Are you wanting to keep just one type of peacock? i think rubiscens have the most outstanding color. like the one in my avatar.

this is one of our favorites. Its not really rare or anything but nice to look at and acts like a puppy.

this pic has the hap ahli on the right and the baenshi peacock on top. those are also nice but also, not very rare.

But with color like that rare isnt an issue I'll have no problem getting rid of fry. Yeah that may be the way to go. Anyone know a good place to find peacocks cheap? other than aquabid

we got all ours at the lfs but it took some time to get our collection together. i have only seen rubiscens once at the lfs and i bought all the good ones. the other types we acquired over time as we made good finds. but you can def. order on line. try davesrarefish.com or unclenedsfishfactory.com

yeah I can order them at the shop I work at but I want to start with about 2 males and 6 females and all I get in at work is male.

next time you order, ask specifically for some females. since you see the stock first, when they arrive, pick the most colorful males out for yourself. these guys will breed like crazy.

If it was me I would do a colony of demasoni. Both males and females have great color and they are usually in pretty high demand so you could trade in the babies for a decent amount.

Peacocks are great but females are really drab so you would only have a few colorful fish.
