i have about 15 various (dont know exact species) african cichlids in a 55g tank - they have bred for a second time - the first time i assume the fry got eaten , though one was able to hide for about 3 weeks in the wood and stone - i see there are now 2 pregnant females holding eggs - can i scoop them out and put them in a breeder setup? or will this kill the eggs?

Hey,
I have taken my females out and put them into other tanks by themselves or even in my community tanks. It should not effect the eggs at all when taking them out but if you stress the female out too much she might eat them or spit them out. If you want to keep the fry and dont feel like taking the females out, then just wait until they are holding for about 18 days and make them spit the babies out of their mouth into a different tank where they wont be eaten. This is usually what i do. the only reason to take a female out of the tank and put her into another is if she is getting harassed really bad or she is really weak from not eating and needs some time to recover.

thanks - she is not getting harassed (actually there are 2 pregnant females right now) - so i guess i will wait and see -- last time i wasnt home when the had fry - and they were all eaten -- was hoping to raise them if possible this time around...

pic plz ??
