My african cichlids are always hiding, i was thinking of a dither fish. What kind of fish should i use? I have a malawi eye biter so one that wont get eaten right away would be nice.

Oh...well I was going to suggest getting more africans but it sounds like you got enough. Idk what to suggest now, maybe 5-7 tiger barbs?
What kind of Africans and whats you decor like? Mbuna thrive with tons of rock, while haps and peas need more open space.
I have some rocks and some fake plants. I did make a lot of hiding spots. I might try some tiger barbs to get them active.
A 40g with 1 Dimidichromis species and 6 other Africans is already off to a bad start. Dimidichromis need a 6' tank, and need to be kept with other predatory species.
Depending on the type of African cichlids you have you may be able to stock more, that may help. I have 30 Mbuna in a 75g and also had the same problem. I added some holey rock and some large barnacles and they started swimming around more. So try adding more rock work.
Your problem may also be as simple as an aggressive fish. I had an auratus for a while and as soon as he matured all the fish hid in half the tank while he roamed in the other half.

Ya, but my dimidichromis is actually not that aggresive. Sometimes my acei cichlid beats him up.
