I have been seeing an increase in number of photos on here showing Africans in SA/CA Cichlid tanks, or with Pacu, and so on....

I'd love your experiences with keeping these guys in "normal" tanks (without raising the pH, etc.)

Or do you guys just plop 'em in there and they do fine?

I have always kept Africans with South Americans.I never even knew that it was a bad thing until I found this site.I have always just dropped them in and thats it.Never had any problems with it.

I think if your water is naturally ready for 'em its a bonus... I also think that a stable ph is better than one that is bouncing around while you try to keep it stable in their preffered range... fish will adapt.

Dont know about normal,my well water is 8.2ph and slightly hard.I have a school of silver dollars in my 125g mbuna tank and they get along fine

one thing you have to remember when bringing fish home from a store is that the breeder, and store may not even have them high ph... If born and raised in something different, adding them to even a high ph can kill them...
It is really just more of the temperament of the fish.

i have fronts with a few SA cichlids. I keep the ph at like 7.2. i know at least half of them were raised in 7 ph and the others a litle higher. And i have burundi fronts and they have blue fins and some blue on the bars
