looking for some good advice on raising these guys.....i found my first about 2 years ago but it died from what i believe to have been internal parasites. well now my second afro aro has finally arrived and he is now about 3.5 inches, in a ten gallon tank with an undergravel filter with aged water from another tank as well as gravel from another tank. i noticed already several external parasites one being hook/anchor worm which i plucked off with tweezers, a couple others appear to be flukes so i am currently treating the tank with PraziPro, a product i found very affective in curing saltwater flukes as well as other external parasites. after the treatment for parasites is complete he will be moved into a 55 where he will grow until he is large enough for my 180 gallon. i'm about to go purchase some live black worms to help beef him up because he does seem a little slim. other than that i plan on feeding him other frozen diets such as blood worms (which i had my first one eating like crazy), and "Freshwater Frenzy". I talked to a several biologists, one saying the addition of DT's plankton would help with its filter feeding habbits, one of the two types of plankton found in DTs can actually live in freshwater, while another biologists simply recommended filling a 10 gallon tank with a submerged piece of lettuce and leaving this tank in the sun for several days till i grew my own plankton. aside from all of this am i missing anything else? and does anyone have any recomendations at all on the success of growing these fish? i know alot of people buy them big, which would be great if i could find any larger than this. thanks in advance, any advice is welcomed and appreciated.........pics to come!!!!

Well I never kept one that small but make sure you keep him well fed and keep the water at good levels

planning on doing very small water changes daily to gather any left over food. like maybe a gallon. as well as testing the water daily. here are the pics. he looks like hes got some good color to it, the first one i had was very pale, there are some pics of it in my personal gallery on here.

nice little afro he is a filterfeeder at this size so make sure he has constant access to food make sure the water params are very good since your only working with 10 gallons

Search MFK for Oddballs Posts on Afros his style of growing these guys has been a tremendous help in keeping these fish healthy BTW
African Arowanas are Obligate Filter Feeders and Oprotunistic piscivores, they can be trained on small pellets

You can also try keeping a constant supply of live brine shrimp for him to eat
