For a quick overview, I have a 200 Gallon show(Tall) tank and its housed with 8 Cichlids all purchased at 1.5-2 inches in length during the month of April. From the day of purchase I pretty much spoiled them with a mix of Brine Shrimp, Bloodworms and Beefheart. Basically I'd fill 1/2 a cup of tank water and throw in an even amount of frozen cubes, melt them, and pour it in slowly in the tank. Really it was just a pot-luck of the tastiest fish food.

Anyway, just recently, about 2 weeks ago I decided to get the pellets in play. I went with The Hikary Bio-Gold+. Why? Just because that's what my LFS had.

6 of my fish went after them with no problem but I had a very picky RT/Hybrid and Jag that refused them. I went 4 straight days on the first week then I gave in and poured in the Pot Luck mix again. I know, I know, slap-on-the-wrist move.

But the 2nd attempt I stood my ground which was just Wednesday 5/1. This was the last day I fed them the mix and stuck with pellets. On day 4-5 my RT/Hybrid gave in and started eating the Pellets, and just this morning, I finally broke my Jaguar. I caught the little sucker sneaky/eating only a few pellets but I consider that a major success because he simply stared at them previously with disgust in his eyes. He actually lost a bit of weight as well during his hunger-strike.

I know this maybe minor news to post but I thought I was going to lose this battle with my Jag. I was almost calculating the cost of sticking with frozen food but in the end, there was now way. One the expense and the other was the overall health of my fish.

I'm hoping in a few days he attacks the pellets the same way he attacked the Potluck. He still has his slight aggression but his other tankmates outgrew him a tiny bit. I mention his aggression because I was worried he'd get weaker and get picked on too much. But he didn't, held his own and eveyone in the tank is happy, for now.

Thanks for reading.

good to hear he's eating pellets now! i had a vieja fenestrata that wouldnt even dare to eat pellets! so i starved them for 9 days and she finally took them, and after that she would always be the first one to attack the pellets as soon and they hit the water :)
