Hey guys I finally changed up my 120 gallon tank yesterday and I went and picked up a Jaguar cichlid. I think he is a male because he has a purple shimmer if the light hits him right and he has some spots. However, he dose have some darker bars with the spots so I guess I am not 100% sure. I was thinking of trying to get a smaller female to add to the tank to try and have them pair off, any suggestions on the best way to do this? I will go snap some pics and post them shortly.

Thanks guys :headbang2

Okay here are the pics. Either my camera is horrible at fish pics or I am...

Actually now I am thinking its a female. She is about 14 inches long so I will need to find a big male for her.

I saw one just like that at my local pet store, I really wish I could of bought the Jaguar for 20 dollars, but then I would have to get rid of my cichlids for the 14 inch beast. So the closes thing I could get to resemble a Jaguar is a Cuban.

What made me think it was a female was looking at this video:

I think he looks more like the darker one in the video which I thought was a female. Thanks for the replies!

a jag alone should be kept in a 180 so i wouldn't do a pair in a 120, the aggression would be too much imo

I´m sure if he feels his fish need upgrading then he will do it. there is too much of an emphasis here about having larger tanks, some people have less room or money than others, some live in different countries where tanks cost a tonne (the UK) or have smaller than average houses (also the UK).

As for the Jag? well I see what you mean about the bars throwing you off a little , but I assume its most likely a male more than a female.
