So i got rid of the ick and all the fish are happy again, however I did damage the bio filter as my tank has an ammonia a spike after 5 days of salt. But the nice part of that is since I am going to be dosing the tank every day with prime I am going to be doing 30% daily water changes while treating.

My water has ammonia in it so it wont hurt the mini cycle.

Then I did something else silly, I had to put a wall back up that I took down when tearing down this tank last time. Well in the course of putting the wall up I unplugged my heaters. Then I did a water change, but instead of the normal setup I have where I could run hot and cold water at the same time, I now have to switch them out one at a time. Well now I have never had to change water like this so I was just guessing the mix.

By the time I was done putting the wall up, and then changing the water, and realizing the heaters had came unplugged the tank lost 14 degrees in little under 2 hours. My poor fish are ticked at me giving them ick, putting them in salt water, and then shocking them with a swift temp change.

I dont think the salt would kill your bacteria , i have treated ich numerous times without messing up my cycle

He used over 15 cups of salt in 5 days.. and I believe with no water changes. That would definitely hurt the bio.

Don't know the how's or why's, but when I got ich courtesy of petco, I used the formula for scale-less fish in my biofiltered tank. (I didn't have any scale-less in the tank, i was just following my mom's advice) I didn't need to add salt, raise the temp, nothing but dose and water change as directed. And no ammonia spiking.

And before you say anything about my petco fish (which I handed back to them, dead), they were a stunning pair of orandas I spotted while picking up a new kitty collar!

I just followed the sticky. I feel worse about the heater, I normally power things off from a strip.
