Hello! I have a 125 gallon aquarium and I dont believe its cycled correctly! Ive had it set up for about 9 months now. I have a 20 inch RTC in it. The water turns a greenish cloudy after water changes. I just did a 50% water change and tested amonnia and the level is high! My nitrates however are low! Why does this amonnia rise? Is it due to (improper cycling)? Is there anyyway to correst this? I have a eheim 2217 along with a Cascade 1000 and 2 penguin 350's Thanks.

what are all your water params?
PH?
temp?
ammonia, nitrites, nitrates ?
whats your stocking like ? just the RTC ?
are you on city water or well ?
what is your WC schedule like ?

^^ I agree as well as you need to check your house water supply for ammonia.----------9months is a long time. have you added a antibiotic to the tank like maracyn or something. And what test kit are you useing. Strips give false readings alot.

There has to be another source of amonnia. Check the water you are using it may be high already.

exactly... even if your tank wasn't cycled it would have low readings across the board after a water change and ammonia would begin rising from there...

does your tank have any direct contact with the sunlight? try using amquel when u do waterchanges u live in newyork so im assuming water must suck. everytime i go ny i drink bottled i dont hink anyone drinks outa their faucet there huh?

I lean more to imporperly cycled tank, I have 1ppm ammonia out of my tap, if I do a 50% water change ammonia is at 0 within 15 hours. I have heard of people not having a cycled tank for a year or more, because they did water changes all the time. When cycling you should not change the water, as this lowers the food needed for the bb, and they take longer to grow.

I killed my BB when I added Medication to my tank :-(, If only I had MFK before I did that.
