does anyone know the lifespan of a RTC, when it matures, reproduces or how many young it produces?

i have had a decent look around and the info i could find was that with the shovelnose cross only 1000 odd out of 10,000 will eventuate but this might not mean that the rtc has 10,000 eggs.

thanks in advance.

i know that no one has bred them in an aquarium and they breed them with induction hormone so this info may be hard to come by.

Males are mature at 18 months, Females 24 months, Average spawn is around 10,000 eggs. Wild survival rates are unknown but in a Aquaculture hatchery rates above 95% are common.

Hot damn could u imagine if you had 9500 little red tails swimming around

The survival rate explains why I see some Short-bodies RTC around here sometimes. We must get the leftovers.

95% of RTC's are bred for the table not the tank ...

I didn't think ppl ate rtcs I thought that was the whole rationale for creating the hybrids

Oh yeah they are primarily a table fish. The Hybrid's were primarily created to allow a pan sized fillet to be processed from a fish that would go through processing machines easier in a quicker time frame.
