Hey Everyone,

I live in Dubai and in the summer the water from my hose comes out at over 30 degree's.

I usually do my water changes in the winter direct from the hose and in the summer I fill up buckets from the tap in the kitchen for my smaller tank as the water stays cooler for longer.

However with my new 720L I will need to be doing 200L water changes and the tap will get too hot.

So I have just bought 2 x 125L containers to store the water and let it cool down.

Do I need to use aeration in these containers for 24 hours?
Do I need to leave them uncovered or can I cover them?
Once they have been standing for 24-36 hours, do I no longer need to dose prime? Shall I does prime just to be on the safe side?

Do you know if your tap water is treated with chlorine or other chemicals?....if it is not then the aeration should not be necessary

Yes it is treated with chlorine

Run aeration in ur storage barrels to keep the water “fresh” and also off gas the chlorine in it. After a few days theres no need for prime IMO. Leave them un covered so the chlorine escapes with the aeration.

There are a number of chlorination methods used to treat water.
The use of Free chlorine, and of chloramine (aka Total Chlorine) are 2 of the most popular.
Free Chlorine easily off gases.
Chloramine does not.
So you may want to inquire what method your water dept uses.

But one of the other benefits of water movement in storage bins, is prevention of mosquitos.
I don't know if you have a mosquito problem in Dubai, but where I live in Panama we do, and we have mosquito police that fine us if they find standing water.
And rightly so, so I put powerhead/wave makers in my water storage tank,
here....standing (stagnant) water breeds mosquitos that cause dengue, malaria, west nile, and many other dangerous diseases.
