Hey my tank lights were still on at 4am and I was watching my polys doing wierd night things-
Everything was normal but I saw my ropefish grab a delhezi's arm for a few seconds without letting go

The ropefish's head is just slightly bigger than the delhezis, so they're sized well for eachother.
Stock is 2x delhezi, ropefish, pleco in a small growout tank for now.

Is this normal poly aggression that occurs at night & just regular pecking order stuff?

Is this above usual aggression that i should separate?

Do i just need more hiding spots probably?

They look so dopey i would have never suspected a rope.

This was the arm that was bit, its fine and he's swimming fine with it.
Do i worry about future bites though?

They go well with each other. There is no aggression as such. This might be a mistake or misunderstanding about fin as food.

If there is aggression then this is because 10 gallon is waaaaaay to small for polypterus. To begin atleast 55 gallon (75 would be best) tank is needed.

After some 5am research Ive seen many setups combine half inch thick ropes with 2 inch thick polys- so im not worries.

I was only nervous because he held on for a couple seconds.

I fed them shortly afterward and they look fine this morning.

This little 10g is just to get the little bichirs up to a decent size before i put them in their next grow out, a 40g long with a 6" palmas palmas.

I KNOW the rope hated this 10g. He'll be going right back into his old 40g with the palmas-

And believe me theyre getting their own 70g-90g when i notice they need more run.

Seems all is well now really-

I can't wait to get a rope or 2 I hope my bichirs dont make a snack of them while I'm not looking

Update: my 14" ropefish is aggressive and i watched him clamp on to my 9" palmas and not let go.

Its crazy, this ropefish has extreme aggresion to polys.

I netted him with bloodworms and he wouldnt eat. I cleaned b and rearranged the tank hoping it would help

Funny that i started this thread because i was worried about the rope getting hurt.. Now im worried about a couple 8" palmas vs a rope??

Lol send me the palmas. But best advice is get another rope there will be some aggressive and their will be some that's not so aggressive, just find the so non aggressive.
