So i picked up a 1" jag and a 1.25" festae 2 weeks ago. They been fine together until i came home today and saw them contantly fighting, flaring gills and locking lips. I have them both in a 10 gal tank so they can size up and be put in with my bigger guys. Is this normal and the aggression will go away or can they seriously hurt one another? should i split them up now and maybe put them together when they get larger with the rest of the bigger fish or do i need to rehome one asap?

sorry camera phone sucks...

He wrote it was a 10 gallon, did you read it?

Anyway, yeah if they are fighting one can kill the other. Whether from actual damage or stress or both. Even though they are small, 10 gallon is too small for them.

Well, its tough to call unless I can see it myself. Does it look as though they are trying to kill eachother or is it to just establish dominance? Is it nonstop chasing and biting?

Then they will go in a 40g once it gets cycled. Its not non stop chasing and biting. It is only when they swim pass one another, then they circle, flare, and fight.

My advice is to keep a close eye and use your best judgment. Sometiems a little fighting is ok. Just make sure one fish isnt getting brutally beaten by the other.
