I have 1 Male Polleni, 1 Male Severum, 1 Male Sajica, 1 Male Nicaraguanese, 1 Male Robertsoni, 1 Female Severum, 8 Yo-yo loaches, 5 Silver dollars, 1 African Brown Knife, and 1 Chocolate Pleco as inhabitants in the 125. Up until about a month ago, life was great in the tank. As these guys have grown and matured, the Polleni has taken over 2/3 of the tank (see pics). Yes, I changed around decor, but still the same. Under normal circumstances everyone else lived somewhat cramped but without too many disputes in their 1/3 of the tank.C But as of yesterday, the lone female in the tank wants to spawn with her man. This makes for a huge problem in the tank.

1. The severums want 1 end of the tank for themselves and chase everyone out of that corner and the other fish try to go into the middle of the tank to give them room.

2. Polleni chases and bites anyone who leaves the 1/3 of the tank he has designated they can have.

3. Polleni seems to think the female severum likes him and wants to come into the area that the severums are.

4. So now I have a Robertsoni, a Nic, and a Sajica with shredded fins and missing scales from being made ping pong balls between the severums and the Polleni.

So, now that you know the problems....here are the choices that I have for immediate relief. In the long term, I tremendously regret and know that I have to find a new home for my polleni. He is an awesome fish, but I can't have him taking over and terrorizing everyone else in that tank.

I can temporarily move the Polleni to my 35 that has my pair of convicts in it - and leave the pair in there as well.

Leave him in the 125 until I find him a new home and hope for the best.

Other!! Any ideas?

i had a polleni one time and he was a jerk too. You can take him out for a while in the 35. then rearrange the tank. wait a little bit for the other fish to establish territory then try to reintroduce the polleni.

^+1. Throw the polleni off his game. You might have a similar problem later, and rearrange the decor again.

If u put the convict (pair) in the 125 you may have worse problems as convicts are rough anyway much less a pair

Put him in the 35. Rearrange decor. Wait a few days. Put him back in the 125.

Unless you have any other tanks that are large enough, this is really your best choice (if you're not willing to buy another tank).

Thanks, I will give it a go. I got him when I got the others all except the Sevs from Rapps. He told me they should get along, but I realize that each individual fish has it's own personality. I was hoping they all would play nice, but it appears that is not going to be the case.

looks like my 125, with the polleni in control and everything else living out of a corner

Don't you know it! I thought I had good tank mates for it, but he rules with an iron fin!
