Ok I'm in a bit of a bind right now. My male marbled convict and female convict just laid eggs in my 125. I did not expect this at all considering both of these fish are still juvies and no more than 1.5"!! Anyways, since this has happened, aggression in the tank has gone crazy. the female con is chasing off, lip locking, biting, etc all the other tank mates that come remotely close to the eggs.

the other fish include: 4" Escondido, 4" Barred Midas, 3.5" Zonatum, 3.5 Spectabilis, 2" Red Ceibal, 3 Tinfoil Barbs, and a Bushynose pleco. I'm picking up a 210 at the end of the month but can't get it any sooner.

I don't know what to do, think my fish could possibly get killed by the little cons? Should I remove the eggs to take the aggression down?

best thing to do is give me your Spectabilis and hope for the best for the rest of the fish :D

i'd actually recommend removing the fry or maybe a divider

If they are not actually damaging the other fish I wouldn't worry too much. A nip here and there is fine, but torn fins and ripped scales would signal problems. An egg crate barrier would be suitable in that case.

Barring that kind of damage, a little intimidation and harrassment here and there isn't going to permanently harm anyone.

Don't you just love cons?

See... I'm just not so sure about that lol. I actually think they all might be ok given the convicts' size. I'm gonna leave them alone tonight and check on them in the morning and see how they all are doing.

Thanks for the input guys

Tsk tsk...Cons are so amorous at a young age.:shakehead

since the cons are so small (which means that egg crate probably wouldn't work ;) ) and the tank is 125 gallons, chances are things will be fine...yeah they'll do some chasing and maybe even some nipping but the other fish have plenty of room to avoid the cons.

Just keep a close eye to make sure there's no damage being done and get the new tank setup as quickly as possible. :)

I think you have enough space there as if the con chase anyone they would escape without taking that much damge. But it would be best to get that 210 asap and set up it asap. I think you wouldn't want your fishes to be stress. Also good luck and cograz on breeding the cons

Just wait until your fry become free swimming and they decide to take the kids on a tour of the tank.

Your tank look like this?

I love watching this Vid. Look at the parachromis and blood parrot in there!

LOL that's exactly what my tank looks like right now, except the cons are a lot smaller
