I noticed that when people are comparing aggressive cichlids no one mentions pikes, are they not that aggressive? Also does diet (live vs. prepared foods) affect aggression?

Pikes are rare and expensive. I don't know anyone personally keeping large pikes. The one large pike I had was a venezuela pike she was 14" and laid back for the most part. I love big pikes and their look but I have been at a loss for large growing affordable pikes. I just can't swing a 175$ for a single specimen.

I keep 2 species of pike cichlids, and don't find them to be aggressive, simply predators. But they are not large, by pike standards, because I only have 100+ gal tanks, and those tanks are not large enough spaces to properly keep large type pikes.
If kept with fish large enough not to be swallowed, and in "proper" size tanks they do fine.
I also think if kept in proper size tanks, cichlids such as managuense and Amphilophous are also non-aggressive.
When breeding occurs, battling is normal, as is, with even the most mild mannered cichlids.

Some sp. are peaceful, and some are extremely aggressive. This might be a better question for the pike sub forum.

Thanks guys, the reason I posted here is because I wanted to hear from some people that had CA/SA cichlids in general and weren't biased towards their particular pikes. My little sveni was a terror if he wasn't fed every few hours, he was only about 3" when I put him in my 40 breeder with 2 full grown silver dollars, next thing I knew one was missing a pectoral fin. I had to move him out of my 55 grow-out because he was picking fights with my 7" managuense female. BTW duanes, those are beautiful.
