I am wanting to put some fish into my 40 breeder aquarium that are fun to feed similar to piranhas that can live out their life in this tank.

Please share your recommendations

Thanks

Exodons are great but I’m not sure if there’s enough room to keep the shoal from killing each other.

Red wolf fish gets my vote - mine will destroy anything that hits the water and is quite an interactive fish (unlike piranhas).

To me a 40 breeder is only large enough for species that get no larger than 4 inches.
So (depending on what your water hardness and pH are?)
Because my water is hard, with higher pH (8.2) I prefer to use Astyanax , or Roeboides tetras as dither species.

Roiboides above, Astyanax below.

If your water is soft, with lower pH, you have, many, many other species from Amazonia to choose from

Don't laugh. Giant Danios.
I know Giant Danios aren't much to look at as juveniles, but when they reach adulthood they blossom into colorful eating machines.

I keep 18 of them in a 120 g. long where they beat the tar out of Tiger Barbs and Buenos Aires Tetras.

At feeding time the Danios swarm at unbelievable speed. I have to grossly overfeed just to make sure enough food reaches the bottom level for the Loaches.
