I have 2 Jack Dempseys in my 90 gal along with some other fish, they're only about 3" just now. I only planned on getting one but when I ordered one from my lfs 2 came instead so he gave the the second one free. I know i'm going to have to get rid of one of them but I can't decide what one! One is really dark, almost black, and has alot of colour and the other is alot lighter with a bit less colour. The problem is that the dark one has started chasing my firemouth, my acara and the other JD about the tank but the lighter coloured one has never bothered anyone. Should I just get rid of the dark one (my favourite of the two) and keep the lighter coloured one? Is the dark one likely to cause havoc as he gets older or could the lighter one just end up the same?

The darker one is probably trying to establish it's dominance so you may see similar behavior from any of your fish if you take him out. But thats all I have to say.

Keep asking around tho.

Thats the way they are. As fishkeeper said, hes probably asserting dominance in the tank. My Meeki runs my tank. Though the other fish are smaller and non-aggressive. When I had my Pike he ran the tank. No one bothered anyone. After he passed the larger Meeki became leader. He would even bully my tinfoil barb who was 3 times his size. Now that the larger Meeki is gone, the smaller one is now in charge. I guess no matter what there will always be a dominant fish.

Personally I would keep the active one. As long as hes not beating up the other fish.

theyr only babies just because one is mean now doesnt mean the other wont become the dominant one. its a big tank noones gonna die any time soon. niether of those dempseys is gonna take over that whole tank just make cave like territories for both and theyll both become recluses thats what dempseys are like. not like its a dovii or somethin
