I'm working on curing a few fish that came to me with extreme pop eye. They're saltwater fish, a standard foxface and an emperor snapper. The foxface has it bad. Both of his eyes are about the size of ping pong balls, but not cloudy. The snapper has it on one side but is also suffering from a few other health problems such as a swim bladder infection and possible extreme malnutrition. I'm keeping these guys in a hospital system the consists of two 75 gallon tanks and a 40 gallon wet/dry system. This is a very sterile system with a 57 watt U.V., salinity of 1.018, no traces of NH3 or NO2. Nitrates test less then 30 ppm.
Seeing that pop eye tends to be very hard to fix i thought i would seek some advice on which antibiotic has the best chance of helping out these fish. I know that this is more of a freshwater website so I'm asking if anyone has had any success treating their freshwater fish and with what meds. Currently I'm soaking the fish in a bath of 2.5 gallons of tank water with about two tablespoons of epsom salt with 1 gram of amoxicillin for a length of 4 hours. Ive had slight results on the foxface, and none on the snapper. If anyone has had any success with any other antibiotics I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance, Alex
