Is this normal behavior for a SAE?
Normal. Every fish has there own personality. Some will chase some will be aggressive and some will be peaceful. I have a group of 6 these 3-4". Had them since they were about 1". Mine have never showed any territorial behavior or aggression toward other fish. SAE are in the same family with Redtail Sharks, Rainbow Sharks and Flying Foxes that can be aggressive at times.
CAEs are very aggressive when they reach larger sizes. In fact, from what I hear, they tend to attack often when they reach adult size. Your fish is related to those i'd imagine.
