I had a severum and it beat the crap out of everything I put in the tank with it! Has anyone else had this problem?

my gold sev chases my little dat around but sometimes the dat will chase him back. but neither of mine chase my danios

What did you put it with? I had severums hold their own with some amphilophus, & veja species. I don't see them beating on many other cichlids though. Maybe silver dollars & barbs.

I've often wondered why Sevs get classed as non-aggressive fish. I've only ever had a couple that weren't complete ***holes.

They probably aren't as 'capable' in a fight as some of the more aggressive cichlids though, but that's a different story IMO

I definitely agree, but I think the measure of temperate has a lot to do with how much damage they can inflict, and while Severum's are no strangers to bullying and chasing equal or smaller fish than themselves, they do no real physical damage to their targets and I've never seen one eat even feeder fish.
