Turned the light on to check my cats out today and almost immediately saw my TSN have a go at my Niger, rammed him and looked like he was trying to bite his pectoral fin. I've never seen him exhibit such behavior before. I sat and watched the tank for about 20 minutes and the RTCxTSN got a little too close to the TSN and got the same treatment. Hopefully this doesn't last. Anybody had aggression issues with a TSN?

I've noticed some very minor fin injuries on my RTC and hybrid but thought they were from messing with each other as I've seen the RTC chase the hybrid off a few times.

TSN is longest fish in the tank at 15-16", hybrid slightly shorter, RTC probably 13" and Niger about 12"

they go at fish sometimes like that they are more aggressive than a rtc but not territorial. maybe he was hungry or something

My old blind tsn and a few rtcs would get aggressive like that once established a territory. Back when I had my blind tsn he would do that exactly to an Oscar and tried to eat my wolffish when it got too close

If any of the other fish were small enough to be a meal I'd expect the TSN to be aggressive with it. I was just surprised to see him acting this way with fish far too large to be eaten. I'm hoping this is more a dominance issue as it appears that he just doesn't want the other cats invading his personal space, wherever he may be. If that's the case he'll be on the opposite end of things soon when the RTC gets a bit more size and doesn't feel like taking the TSN's abuse. So far there's no serious fin damage so I'm not particularly concerned, just would have never suspected the TSN was the aggressor if I hadn't witnessed it myself.

That's the thing the wolf was 5-6". So far from being small enough for a meal. I think it was more of it was alone for a while and it became territorial. It would ram my Oscar the same way nipping at its tail too.

My take is it is unnatural for them to be so close to each other. As someone said it is not entirely unlike having a wolf, a bear, a leopard, a bull, etc. together in one cage. So there will be squabbles. As long as they produce no worrisome damage and are only occasional, I think it is normal.
