Hi all, been looking for Uaru for a long time and finally found three for sale, bought them all. The are approximately 11cm, 10cm and 8cm. They have been in my tank (5x2x2) for about 5 days with no aggression problems, all schooling together happily, then suddenly yesterday, the smallest starts attacking the largest for no apparent reason. The largest one doesn't do anything to defend itself, and has been hiding in the rockwork for about a day now. Any ideas why? Could this be an early sign of pairing off? What should I do with the largest Uaru, he looks really beaten up, should I try and separate him or add Melafix? The smallest Uaru shows no aggression towards the other tankmates (Giant Gourami, Senegal Bichir, Gibbiceps).

Maybe you could try adding a few more dithers, and rearrange the tank a couple times. I've had them before and haven't had that problem. Could the largest fish be sick? I'd probably start with rearranging the tank.

I rearrange the decor once or twice a week, whenever I do a water change. There are 10 Scissortail Rasbora in there for dithers. I don't think the largest fish is sick, pretty hard to tell now anyway. The smallest Uaru is only picking on that particular fish, and is fine with all the other fish.

I have 3 ( 9" to 11") I had to separate, the 2 smaller ones bonded then the
3rd became the outcast.. I added some Silver Dollars to tone down the aggression. However even in a 6' 125 proved to be two small.. In fact I'm looking to set up a tank for the pair alone, since every time they lay eggs they harass their new tank mates something awful..:nilly:

i have 6 in my 125 and it is funny the smalest one of the bunch is the most agro of them. however he has never done any damage to another fish.

if i were you i would add some salt for the injured guy (or take him out and treat) depending on how damaged he is.

then

try adding some s.d. if that does not work you may just have to give me one of the two that don't get along :D

Do you think I should add some Silver Dollars? I don't think it will make a difference, as the smallest Uaru (the agro one) is only aggressive to that particular Uaru, not to any of its tankmates.

i don't think it will help but it is worth a try.

you may just have to get rid of the little one. at the size they are i do not think it has anything to do with breeding. they mature later than most c. and are difficult to breed so i dought that is the problem.
