I have a pair of Blood Parrots and for some reason as soon as I turn off both lights at night they start attacking the other fish. I MEAN IMMEDIATLY!!!! Any other time they are fine and non-aggressive! The only other time the female is aggressive is when she is protecting her eggs. So at night I always leave one light on so that I don't have to wake up to any dead fish. Not sure what to do........don't really want to separate any of the fish.

Leave the light on.
It is probably just over-protective behavior. There is a good chance that the turning off of the light triggers the other fish to look for food, and they go where they aren't welcome. Watch the other fish and see if they routinely avoid the parrots.
With fish being as quirky as they are, I'd not put much faith in the light's power to stop chaos. The pair may decide to kill everything anyway.

There are many ways to reduce aggression. Lower temps can help. New decorations or a rearrangment has an effect. Other people will have more ideas than that, I suspect.

parrots are beleived to be mixed with some very agressive fish ( such as red devil) so the behavior of that fish could easily be carried over into the parrot's....

ive noticed some of this behavior with some of my cichlids. it seems they both mark there own cave when the light is on. but then when the light is off they come out and fight. kinda an interesting behavior. goodluck with ur fish tho.

I have 4 parrots 5" long and 5 severums 5" long a convict and a pleco 10" long. They all get along, when the lights go out they lay near the bottom of the tank as they were sleeping. They have plenty of space so they don't feel confined. Water temp. is 78. These fish were all raised together.
