im recently having some problems with agression and sand. my dominant female frontosa is really starting to get mean, more then ive ever seen the males. 7 of my fronts have been together about a year, i recently added four babys given to me by a breeder, they were the smallest of his batch with the nicest striping, the babys are doing so good better than i could have expected, but one of the original 7 is staying at the top of the tank and anytime she goes down my dominant female attacks and she retreats :( its gotten so bad even the some of the four babys pick on her if she comes down from the top. im guessing its because hergrowth is stunted, she has very bad stripes cmpared to everyone else who has perfect stripes, shes stayed about the same size since i got her, while everyone has just flown by her growth wise. so what would you do?

my next dilemma.... every 2 weeks one of my ac 110 filters starts getting very loud from sand being sucked into the filter, my fronts spit it everywhere. the filters dont stop making noise so i bring them back and exchange them for a new one, i put sponges on my filter inlet tubes and it just makes my flow rate drop dramatically, im getting really sick of the ac 110 in my frontosa tank, in my tanks with gravel i never ever had this problem. just my sand substrate tank with my fronts, any tips or hints? thank you

Other than the sponges I can't think anything to do except for getting a canister. The sand will destroy the ac 110 by wearing down the magnet and the internal motor housing. I would suggest take the ac 110 off that tank if your fronts keep getting sand in it. A canister filters the water before it gets to the impeller, so any sand will be filtered out if it gets sucked up.

thank you very much for the moving the rocks around suggestion ill try that tomorrow when i do a w/c, ill let you know if it works.

and thank you very much for finally enlightening me on the ac 110, all this time if only i had known, wow , what would be the best canister for a sand bottom tank? anything out there better than the fx5? because thats what i was thinking about, any suggestions?

I don't know much about canisters, but a wet/dry won't suck any sand. And if it did, it to would be filtered before entering the pump.

What size tank? What are your stocking levels?

u can try seperatin with a divider the aggressor and leave the victim free to roam the tank for like 1 week, then release the other one, it puts them kind of at the bottom of the chain again as the other got to dominate the tank for a while. U might need to try it a few times.

wow shes dead :( this hurts, is it because its got messed up genes and stripes and really didnt grow much???? my 4 babys are in perfect cond, my stocking levels are 3 males 3 females and 4 1 inch babys in a 125 i have a ton of hiding spaces :(
