Many of you remember when I asked about the "black and white" oscar and showed you this picture...

I've recently come across something, that this isn't in fact an oscar, but are so close of a relative to them that they're considered oscars by many. Here's the source:

I'm not claiming that this source is 100% correct, but they claim that this specific "oscar" is a "astronotus crassipinnis". Also closely related is the "astronotus orbicularis". Once again, I'm not claiming this to be right, but I thought it could clear up some of the cloudiness that has been hovering around these guys. For those that have been wanting one of these really bad, supposably they're hard to find in a LFS. Good luck to anyone who wants to try, though :)
 
"Oscar" is a catch-all term for Astronotus species, much the same way that Severum is a catch-all term for Heros and Festivum is a catch-all term for Mesonauta. They're not the common variety of Oscar, but they'd still probably be referred to as such, especially since the juveniles probably look nearly identical to other types of Oscars.
