I could just cry. I left the state for a week (someone was home to care for the fish), but alas my Oscar has a pin-sized hole in his head. I'm not talking about just skin deep, there is actually a little hole in his head. Other than a mild bout of ich, he hasn't had any other diseases/parasites.

I do water changes every other week, tank is 55 gallons, cascade canister, everything is always level (yet I can't test it at this very second). He is rarely fed feeder fish, since that is how he got ich.

Long story short, I know how hith develops, I want to know what are the chances of me losing my beloved Gimpy? I would post a pic, to show the hole being a frickin hole, but dead batteries killed that idea.

Yeah, and to top it off, this morning he hit the lid hard enough to cut his lip pretty deep, too (oh, the blood!). His lip is dangling slightly, off to the side.

I treated the water already with Jungle Parasite Clear (Ingredients- Praziquantel; diflubenzuron; metronidazole; acriflavine), yet I don't know how well it works, since I've never had any of these problems before.

I've had him for a year and a half now, since he was a baby.

Tell me I'm overreacting, and that with a few water changes and a healthy diet, it'll be ok?

Well I don't have any experience with HITH *knock on wood* but from what I've read on MFK, the best way to treat it is to get your water pristine. I'd be doing daily or every other day water changes for a few weeks at least, and once it clears up, cut back to once a week (or maybe even twice a week) water changes and make that your routine. Every 2 weeks for an Oscar in a 55 probably isn't often enough.

Also a varied diet helps I think.

It's injured lip will also benefit from the fresh water and help it heal faster.
