Ahh Panick mode! Cichla hurt his lip!

Thi morning i went out to feed my belovid monoc, and to my suprise i can see that hes cut/torn the skin just above his lip if you know what i mean, and looks red, and one side of his jaw looks a little swollen! Ive added a load of salt, and im going to do a big waterchange tommorrow. id treat but i have a ray in there, and with it being a pond it would cost a fortune to.

But on the plus side his nunchical hump is comming on great! Hes still got his appietite too!

just keep the water quality good and keep adding salt, can you post some pics?

Actually ive been looking at his lip against some of my piccys, and it doesnt look as bad! Its just torn and a little swollen, hes still eating, just a little less. Id try for pictures but its not all that noticeable.

I panicked because hes my 2nd best fish after the lungfish and i dont know what id do if he died. I think he damaged it from hitting the side of the vat after food he sometimes does that or getting too excited over food.

Why not salt??? Im not questioning you?? just curious. also hes had salt a few times before.

yea it wont kill them but its not good for them. cichla come from extremely soft water rivers which have absolutely no salt traces. what salt does is stresses out your fish so that they produce more slim to protect them... you dont need it.. just feed him well and if you want you could add some stress coat but there is really no need. if you water quality is good and your fish is healthy... food will act as the medication to heal the leisure on his lips.
