i feed mine live. fan tail gold fish are slow and filling, mine seems to prefer these to faster swiming feeders.
water changes depend on filter system efficiency, just make sure amonia, nitrates, nitrites are low, keep mine at around 7ph. they aren't too picky, just keep things stable.
