Just wondering.. is aimara banned in the USA? They are quite vicious & grow as large as a giant snakehead with no known predators to eat them in the wild..
Does anyone has pics of aimara?

Their might be a few states in the U.S. they are banned but for the most part they are legal. They are just so rare and cost so FREAKIN MUCH...LOL. I would sell an arm for one, since i might lose it anyway during a waterchange....:headbang2

i've seen some in lfs every now and then i don't think they're banned from the us

Beautiful specimens.. look at those teeth.. now I know why ppl wouldn't wanna put their hands in the tank when doing waterchange.. lol
I just couldn't understand why the US government banned snakeheads but not aimara..

Sh's were relased into local waters around the U.S, and took off breeding and became an invasive species. Aimara are rare, most varients going for $3000+ for single fish. nobody can afford to keep them, find them, let alone release tons of them into waters around florida, virginia.. etc

I've given up on my personal quest to buy one.

in certain states (florida all hoplias are prohibited species). so they are banned in cetain states.

Cuz jackasses were releasing the snakeheads into lakes, ponds, and etc. and the snakeheads began wreaking havoc on the ecosystem. They were eating all the native fish and such and snakeheads are HARDY fish so they were pretty much taking over. I think the deal with this mainly is that snakeheads are inexpensive for the most part. hell they are used as feeders A LOT OF THE TIMES, so its easy to get them and the Reds when to large, get released by people who cant care for them properly. Aimara on the other hand are very rare and whoever can afford to buy one is def. going to be able to care for it, and VERY MUCH LESS LIKELY TO RELEASE THE $2000 + fish....IMO

Nope not Banned every where but in some places just rarely imported and theres a high demand for them so when an aimara comes around you can expect to pay a few thousand $ for it

They do have the potential to invade U.S waters in tropical areas but like said any body that will spend the money on an Aimara Probably has the money for a large tank and won't release it into the wild

Surprisingly these aren't illegal in Ca, but H. Malabaricus is the only Wolf Fish banned in Ca.

Im guessing b/c the Mala is more readily available....no need to ban Aimara b/c most people cant afford them, and those who can, can't find them....they are that RARE...:D
